West Virginia

West Virginia quilting is a deeply ingrained tradition reflecting the state's Appalachian heritage.

I do really like this block. I love the stars and how simple it is with just the two colors. I would make up a bunch of these for a quilt in a heartbeat.

Using A and B make 16 HST's.

Now we will lay out our block and sew it together. We will work this block in three sections. Left, middle and right.

Start by making your two pinwheel blocks for your left and right.

Add pieces C and D and your remaining HST's as shown below. This works well to do in sections.

Make your center column as shown here.

At this point you should have something looking like this.

Add pieces E to the top of your left piece and bottom of your right piece.

Sew your columns together to complete your block.

U.S.A. Map Quilt

I am not sure I like these tiny states. I know it is hard to see them in the pictures. I will make sure when we get to the really tiny ones that I zoom in for those ones so you can clearly see them.
