Texas
Texas hosts the International Quilt Festival in Houston which is the world's largest annual quilt event.
I feel like this block makes complete sense for Texas.

Cutting

Piecing
Use pieces A and B to make 8 HST.
Piece together two HST to make the points on your star. These will be attached to the sides of your center block.
Sew your star points to the sides of piece C.
Sew your top and bottom rows together using pieces D and the remaining points.

Sew your top and bottom row onto your block to create the center of your block.
Next take E and F to create the border around your block. Attach E to the sides of your block.

Sew F onto each end of your remaining E pieces to create your top and bottom rows.
Attach your top and bottom rows to complete your block.

U.S.A. Map Quilt
I used a layer cake for the states on this. Texas was bigger than 10". There was no way for me to fit it on what I had. I think my substitute goes pretty well with the other fabrics in my quilt so far. I also think that is about half of the country done.
