North Carolina

North Carolina

The North Carolina Museum of History quilt collection and the Mountain Heritage Center are responsible for documenting Appalachian quilting.

I want to like this quilt block, but I also don't like it. I think it could be made up really neatly with the right fabrics, but this one just doesn't speak to me.

Cutting

Piecing

We will be creating a total of 5 9-patch blocks for this block. The middle one will be pieced from our top, middle and bottom rows when we put the block together.

Start with A and B and create a 9 patch.

Repeat with A and C.

Make a 9 patch with A and D.

Repeat with A and E.

Add piece F and G to your top and bottom rows to create complete rows.

For your middle row put together G, F, A, F, G in that order.

You should have a layout like this.

Sew your rows together to complete your block.

U.S.A. Map Quilt

Overall I am really liking how this whole thing is coming together. I think it looks great and is interesting compared to the normal projects so many of us make, myself included in that.
