In New Jersey the Newark Museum of Art and Monmouth County Historical Association hold notable 18th - 19th century quilts.
I think this block is really striking in the colors used to create the image. I hate doing the little blocks for the 9 patch, but this one is so pretty I will have to make this one up at some point.

Cutting

Piecing
Using A and B make 4, 9-patch blocks.

Sew C and D into strips, white, black, white.

Let's create the rows for the center of our block. Place E in the very center of the middle row.

Sew the rows together to make the center of your block.

Using G and H make 8 HST's.
Repeat with I and J and make 4 HST's.
Now we are ready to start making our outside border.
Using gray and white HST's and piece F we will create the sides of our block. Make 4 sets of this to use around the whole block.

Sew one set to each sides of your block.

Using your black and white HST you will make the top and bottom rows of your block.

Sew your rows together to complete your block.

U.S.A. Map Quilt
Tiny New Jersey added to this map does help a little bit with being able to see what is in this corner. I'm not sure why, but it does help me.
These tiny states were a pain to do and I am not looking forward to sewing these down. I think it's going to be almost completely covered in stitches. We will see what it looks like when I get it done.
