The Seminole people created a unique patchwork strip-piecing style in the early 1900's.
Florida's quilt trail, particularly in the historic downtown Trenton area, features quilt blocks displayed on barns and buildings celebrating the state's quilting tradition and rural landscapes.
This is one block I will not be making. There are so many small pieces in it. It is a beautiful block, but I will pass on this one. What about you?
Cutting
Piecing
Cut piece A corner to corner to make triangles.
Cut piece C corner to corner to make triangles.
Cut piece D corner to corner to make triangles.
Cut piece F corner to corner to make triangles.
Take piece B and sew two triangles cut from piece to to it to make one larger triangle. (note this was done with gray for visibility, the pattern calls for white).
Add a triangle cut from A to the long side of this to make a square.
Make a total of 8 of these.
Repeat these steps with the triangles made from piece D, E and F.
Make a total of 8 of these.
With pieces G and H make a total of 8 four-patch blocks.
Let's start laying our block out so we can add our last pieces in and make our rows. I have added piece I into the center of the block.
Now we will be adding J and K into our block, and then create rows that we can work on sewing together.
Once you have all your rows completed, sew all your rows together to finish your block.
U.S.A. Map Quilt
With Florida added on there is just one corner left to add. I kind of wish I had used a red or white and had other colors beyond blue against the blue background.
