The Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in Golden Colorado has rotating antique and contemporary exhibits.
This block is a little more complicated, but so pretty.
Cutting
Piecing
Take pieces A and B and make 4 HST. These HST will be sewn together to make pinwheel.
Use pieces C and D. Add piece C to both sides of your pinwheel block. Using D and the remaining C pieces make your top and bottom strips putting D on both ends of C.
Sew your rows together to create the center of your block.
Take pieces F and cut them corner to corner to make 8 triangles. Sew your triangles to the sides of pieces E as shown below. (Please note the gray pieces are white in the instructions. The color was changed to make this visible in the image.)
Make 4 of these.
Sew your triangle pieces to your center block.
Next we will begin making our outer corners using G, H, I, and J.
Follow the diagram below to make these up.
Using a ruler cut across these four corner pieces as shown. If you would prefer you can sew this onto your center block first and then trim down to 1/4".
Sew these onto all four sides of your center block.
Using pieces K sew one to each side of your block.
Using the remaining piece K and L make your top and bottom rows, placing piece L on both sends of piece K.
Sew your top and bottom rows onto your block to complete your block.
