The quilts of Gee's Bend, Alabama are renowned for their bold patterns and improvisational style. These quilts created by a community of African-American women have been exhibited in major art museums and are considered a significant contribution to American art.
This block is simple, but would be a great one to use in a quilt. I think my daughter would love it made up in the right colors.


Cutting

Piecing
Using A and B make a 9 patch for the center of your block.
Add piece C to both sides of your 9 patch.
Using A and C create your top and bottom row.

Sew your top and bottom rows to your block.
Sew piece D to the sides of your block.
Use pieces A and D to create your top and bottom rows.

Sew the top and bottom to your block to finish it.
